Film Publicist, Screenwriter, Editor, Studio Executive, General Manager. Born in Troy, New York and raised in New York City by Jewish parents Daniel and Rosa Brandenburg, he graduated from New York University (NYU) with a degree in law. After working between Hampton's Advertising Agency, Dramatic Mirror and Billboard magazine, he became a member of the executive staff for Independent Moving Pictures company under Carl Laemmle sometime before the merger to create Universal Pictures in 1912. He even came up with the name, National Board of Review for the non-profit film enthusiast/awards organization. After leaving Universal in 1918, he co-founded CBC (Cohn-Brandt-Cohn) Film Sales Corporation with his friends, brothers Harry Cohn and Jack Cohn. The company was renamed to Columbia Pictures in early 1924 to rebrand their image. Brandt sold his stake in Columbia to Harry Cohn in 1932 and retired from film in 1935 as a result of lymphoma.
